Market, sacrifice and mutual advantage: The Good Samaritan re-considered as a narrative of trust

Market, sacrifice and mutual advantage: The Good Samaritan re-considered as a narrative of trust

Professor Luigino Bruni (LUMSA)
The parable of the Good Samaritan is not only part of the spiritual, ethical and artistic heritage of the Western World, it is also the biblical passage that has most got the interest in economics. Some leading economists, James Buchanan and Amartya Sen in particular, have devoted special attention to this old story. This lecture is the result of a new question to the parable of Good Samaritan, taking seriously an often neglected part of the story: the trust relationship between the Samaritan and the Innkeeper he entrusted the wounded man.
